Turner County Middle School
The Turner County Middle School focuses on letting children develop their learning skills as well as their creativity. In addition to art, music, chorus, and band, the middle school is an active participant in the local and state science fair. Each year 3-4 students from the middle school make it to state competition, and we have had many to place in state. Our middle school also participates in a stock market investment game. Each student starts the beginning of the year with a set amount of "play" money and invests in different types of stock. This is a state wide program and Turner County has had some of its children win the state championship. Our middle school also has the opportunity to participate in debate and the future problem solvers. After school programs are designed to help children who need extra tutoring in reading and math. The labs are open from 4-5 in the afternoon for 6th-8th grades. A summer enrichment program for 4th-8th grades is also available for those who are behind in reading and math. This enrichment program works with East Central Tech, a local technical school, to help motivate the "at risk" students to stay in school. The students tour the technical school's shop classes, cosmetology classes, and other types of classes to help give them a better idea of the choices they have after high school. This also reduces the chances of high school drop outs.
