Natural Gas

The City of Ashburn distributes natural gas to the industrial community.

Natural gas is available on a firm or interruptible basis. The present allocation is 750,000 cubic feet per day.

A 2" gas line is located along most of the streets in the industrial area utilizing a pressure of 18-20 p.s.i. with the BTU content average 1,028 per cubic foot.

The City utilizes a "peak shaving" facility as a stand-by fuel system. This facility has the capability of supplementing the allocation by 50,000 cubic feet per hour by feeding vaporized propane gas into natural gas system.

Fuel Oil

Fuel Oil for industrial use is available from the local supplier:

Scott Oil Company

LP Gas

Liquefied propane for industrial use is distributed in Ashburn by two companies, plus the City of Ashburn.

Water System

The City of Ashburn's excess water capacity is 2,700,000 gallons per day average. Total capacity is 3.5 million gallons per day.

Water usage averages 800,000 gallons per day. The maximum recorded gallons pumped on any one day was 1,200,000. Static water pressure of 67 p.s.i. and residential water pressure of 55 p.s.i. is from elevated storage tanks of 300,000 and 250,000 gallons.

The principal mains of 6" and 8" serve the residential areas and mains of 10" and 12" serve most of the Industrial Park area.

All of the wells and elevated tanks are "looped" into one system enabling all areas to have water service when wells or tanks are down for service or repair.

The city's water supply can be augmented by the City of Sycamore. Sycamore's water system is connected to Ashburn' s via an 8" line controlled by a gate valve that can be opened if necessary .This would add an additional elevated storage of 135,000 gallons and an additional pumping capacity of 720,000 gallons per day.

Sewer System

The City of Ashburn operates a new waste water mechanical treatment facility. This new facility serves both residential and industrial customers. It is permitted for 1,160,000 gallons per day, giving Ashburn an excess sewerage capacity of 400,000 gallons per day.
